HC denies bail to Rana Plaza owner

The High Court on Thursday rejected as ‘not being pressed’ the bail petition of collapsed Rana Plaza owner Sohel Rana who was charged for constructing the building in violation of the rulse.
A bench of Justice Md  Nizamul Haq and Justice Md Jahangir Hossain passed the order after hearing Sohel Rana’s bail petition, moved by his lawyer.
Sohel Rana, his parents, the building architect, a former mayor of local municipality and a ward councillor were among 17 others accused face in a corruption case filed with the Savar police station in June 2013 for constructing the building beyond Rajuk’s approved design.
Sohel Rana’s bail petition was filed following submission of the charge sheet in the case by the Anti-Corruption Commission on July 15.
The building that housed least five apparel factories collapsed on April 24, 2013, leaving at least 1,138 people killed and scores of others maimed or injured and many missing.
Sohel Rana faces at least three cases since he was arrested in May.
