Three international trade shows including the Garment Accessories, Packaging and Related Machinery Expo begin at the International Convention City, Bashundhara in Dhaka on Wednesday with participation of around 300 companies from more than 30 countries.
The two other exhibitions are the 15th edition of GARMENTECH Bangladesh 2016, an international apparel machinery and allied products tradeshow, and the 7th edition of International Yarn and Fabrics Sourcing Fair.
The fairs will be held under the joint arrangement of Zakaria Trade and Fair International, ASK Trade and Exhibitions Pvt Ltd and Bangladesh Garment Accessories and Packaging Manufacturers and Exporters Association.
‘Accessories and packaging manufacturing sector is playing an important role in boosting export earnings and it will be possible to increase the export earnings of the sector to $18 billion by 2025 if the government provides policy support,’ BGAPMEA president Rafez Alam Chowdhury said at a pre-expo press briefing at the La Vinci Hotel in the city on Sunday.
He said that the BGAPMEA set a target of export of $12 billion by 2018, and it would be possible to achieve the goal if the government allows the trade body to issue utilisation permission certificates to help manufacturers and resolve other customs-related problems.
‘The concept of the four-day international tradeshows under one roof from leading international firms has been appreciated well as it brings a tremendous sourcing opportunity for all the stakeholders in the textile and RMG industry,’ said Nanda Gopal K, director of ASK Trade and Exhibitions Pvt Ltd.
‘The GARMENTECH will be the technology destination for the RMG sector to modernise, upgrade and increase the value chain,’ said Tipu Sultan Bhuyian, chief executive officer of Zakaria Trade and Fair International.
Commerce minister Tofail Ahmed is expected to inaugurate the events as chief guest.
