Rana Plaza victim raped

An elderly man was sent to jail on Saturday on allegation of raping a teenage girl, injured in the collapse of Rana Plaza at Savar in April 2013, luring her to his Savar house promising her Tk 25,000 in compensation.
The victim was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital on Sunday for treatment and other medical examination.
Savar model police station sub-inspector Shahin Sheikh, also the investigation officer in the case, said that the police arrested Shahabuddin, 56, of Manikganj, at his present house at Bank Colony at Savar on June 5.
The police said that the victim used to work on the sixth-floor of, Rana Plaza, the nine-storey building that collapsed on April 24, 2013 leaving more than 1,135 people killed and scores injured.
The victim’s aunt told New Age that the victim had been suffering from headache and chest pain since she had survived in the building collapse.
She said that recently Shahabuddin approached the victim and asked her to meet him at his Bank Colony house with Tk 500 to fill up a form to get Tk 25,000 in compensation.
On June 4 evening, the girl, as per Shahabuddin’s instruction, went to his house, where he kept her confined overnight and raped her, alleged the victim’s family.
Being released in the morning on June 5, the victim informed her family, said the victim’s aunt.
She said, ‘We confined the accused and informed the police, who then arrested him.’
