Workers Party of Bangladesh, an ally of the Awami League-led alliance, on Saturday called on the government to ensure that workers get wage and festival allowance by July 14.
Leaders of the party Dhaka city unit made the call at a rally in front of National Press Club where they recounted government failures to ensure people’s rights.
Abul Hossain, labour leader and president of the party city unit, said the government failed to control corruptions and price hikes of essential commodities.
He called on the government to take action against those who imported rotten wheat from Brazil.
He called on the government and owners of mills and factories to take steps to pay wage and festival allowance of the workers by July 14.
Chaired by Abul Hossain, the rally was addressed, among others, by the party’s central leaders Tapan Dutta, Zakir Hossain Raju, general secretary of the Dhaka city unit Kishore Roy, city leaders Mostafa Alamgir Ratan, Zahangir Alam Fazlu and Murshida Akter.
